In honor of his 24th birthday, on June 11th Kodak Black uploaded a video to his Instagram in front of what appeared to be a Kobe Bryant-themed helicopter. For obvious reasons, people are questioning the rapper’s choice of objects because, well for one reason, Kobe passed away in a horrific helicopter crash that not only took his life but the life of his daughter Gianna and several others. The incident was heard around the world and struck the hearts of millions of people, leaving people upset and changing their lives forever.
Being a big Kobe fan himself, Kodak had the best intentions behind his Instagram post. It is a five-minute-long video of what people on the internet are claiming to be ‘gibberish’ in regards to the rapper mumbling his words and talking in a lower tone. In the video, he expresses his love and condolences to the Bryant family while also sharing a story of him getting a psychic reading and revealing that he feels ‘closer’ with the late basketball star, hence his Kobe-themed birthday celebration. Not only would the Miami rapper get himself the custom helicopter, but he also showed a custom Kobe Bryant car that has “RIP KOBE #24” permanently stitched onto the heads of his seats.
The helicopter may have clearly been in poor taste of Kodak and ever since the video has been made public he has been receiving serious backlash from misunderstanding Kobe fans. Hearing how he had somehow miscommunicated his message, he recently attempted to explain himself on a local radio interview in Miami, 99JAMZ. “It was January 26, 2020, and I was in Oklahoma. I was still in prison. I heard about this unfortunate demise and stuff like that and I was already saying, man, when I come home, I’mma come home on a helicopter,” Kodak said. Since this statement the rapper has not made any comment on the situation, leaving his fans to defend him on social platforms.
