American businessman and former United States President Donald J. Trump recently confirmed his upcoming lawsuit against the cable TV network giant, CNN. Suing for alleged defamation, the New York-born politician claims that the platform made multiple attempts to tarnish his name “with a series of ever-more scandalous, false, and defamatory labels of ‘racist,’ ‘Russian lackey,’ ‘insurrectionist,’ and ultimately ‘Hitler,’” according to Trump’s legal team.

Trump’s attorney continued, “CNN’s highly defamatory and persistent association of the Plaintiff to Hitler and Hitler’s ‘Big Lie’ is no mistaken misappropriation… It is wanton and malicious ‘reporting’ intended to feed a narrative and to achieve the desired end: to cause readers and viewers to associate the Plaintiff with the lowest of the low, to fear him, to not vote for him, and to support campaigns against him.” Parts of an official document leading towards this high-profile case were leaked to the public — “Beyond simply highlighting any negative information about the Plaintiff and ignoring all positive information about him, CNN has sought to use its massive influence, purportedly as ‘trusted’ news source, to defame the Plaintiff in the minds of its viewers and readers for the purpose of dating him politically,” the file wrote.

If found guilty of Trump’s allegations, the widely-known platform will seemingly owe approximately $475 million in various counts of defamation and punitive damages, a fine that the corporation can most definitely live without. As of now, there is yet to be a determined trial date for this specific lawsuit, however seeing how popular the two parties are, there is no telling how quickly the courts will be able to move forward with this case.
