The Brooklyn Nets have officially suspended their star point guard, Kyrie Irving. Announced to the public this past Thursday, November 3, 2022, the respected franchise stated that his suspension will last a mandatory length of “no less than five games,” without any financial compensation. This short adjournment from the NBA follows the recent release of Irving’s Amazon film, Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America, containing a handful of antisemitic analogies.
Irving states the following to his social media accounts after his publicized suspension: “I posted a Documentary that contained some false-antiSemitic statements, narratives, and language that were untrue and offensive to the Jewish Race/Religion, and I take full accountability and responsibility for my action… I am grateful to have a big platform to share knowledge and I want to move forward by having an open dialogue to learn more and grow from this.”
Brooklyn currently withholds an uncomfortable 1-5 record for the 2022-’23 NBA season, however, Kyrie himself has been performing individually well. Over the last three games for the Nets – facing the Indiana Pacers twice followed by the Chicago Bulls – Irving has aided his team’s score chart with well-deserved 67 points, 19 assists, and 14 rebounds. Their next match takes place this upcoming Friday, November 4, at the Capital One Arena against the Washington Wizards.
