Former heavyweight boxer, Goran Gogic has just been charged with one of the largest cocaine busts in the history of the United States. According to U.S. officials, the 43-year-old ex-athlete from Montenegro, Balkans was recently convicted of trafficking approximately 22 tons ($1 billion worth) of cocaine from Colombia, Europe, and into North America.
Gogic was placed in a local Miami jail this past Monday, October 31, 2022, after he was specifically labeled as a “sophisticated drug trafficker,” as stated by NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell. As a response to the handful of criminal accusations, the defendant’s attorney, Lawrence Hashish, claimed the following during their brief court appearance: “These charges came as a surprise to him. He maintains his innocence and has come to the United States for a boxing convention in Puerto Rico.” A follow-up trial is now set to take place this upcoming Monday, November 7.
