Young Thug has already blessed his listeners early this year with the release of his previous album, “Slime Language 2,” which debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart. Clearly not enough, the 30-year-old artist is now back with the drop of his highly-anticipated project, “Punk,” that recently hit all streaming platforms this past Friday, October 15, 2021. The popular rapper made the announcement through a simple Instagram post that withheld the cover art for his album, accompanied by the short caption, “Punk at Midnight.” This was soon followed by another post that consisted of the long list of features, along with another straightforward caption that read, “Added a couple of friends… Punk @ midnight PST/3am EST.”
“Punk” consists of a total of 16 featured verses that are carefully spread throughout 20 tracks over the course of an entertaining 1 hour and 3 minutes. Some of the artists that Thug managed to get on the project include Gunna, J. Cole, T-Shyne, Post Malone, A$AP Rocky, Juice WRLD, Future, Bslime, Strick, Doja Cat, Travis Scott, Drake, Lil Double 0, Nate Ruess, Jeff Bhasker, and even the sadly deceased Mac Miller made an appearance on the last song, “Day Before.” Thug explained during an interview how Mac Miller came to his studio to record that specific verse on the day before his passing; they both gave the song the title “Day Before” while they were still in the studio that night, not having any idea of the unfortunate occurrence that was to come the next day. Various tracks off the album have already been added to popular hip-hop playlists across all streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. “Bubbly” (feat. Drake & Travis Scott) and “Livin It Up” (feat. Post Malone & A$AP Rocky) has already reached the top of RapCaviar on Spotify, while simultaneously becoming the top two fan-favorite singles from the project. His previous album, “Slime Language 2,” is still frequently heard throughout social media, being that it has only been a few months since he officially released the project back in April of this year. Select music videos for specific songs off the album are also currently available for streaming exclusively on Young Thug’s Youtube channel.
