Rapper YFN Lucci has announced that he will go to trial after rejecting a plea deal offered by prosecutors in his RICO case. The plea deal reportedly included a 20-year sentence with 17 years to be served in prison if Lucci pleaded guilty to charges such as felony murder, racketeering, aggravated assault, and violation of the street gang terrorism and prevention act.
Lucci’s attorneys called the plea offer “absurd” and accused the district attorney of intentionally prolonging the process, noting that the rapper has been in custody awaiting trial for over two and a half years. They also criticized the district attorney’s handling of the case and her focus on high-profile cases that they believe have monopolized the court’s resources.
In January 2021, Lucci turned himself in after being wanted for multiple charges related to a shooting death. In May 2021, he was among a dozen suspects indicted in a 105-count racketeering indictment involving factions within the Bloods street gang. The indictment accuses Lucci of various crimes, including tampering with evidence, assault by strangulation, and encouraging the assault of someone playing rival gang music. Lucci’s attorneys maintain his innocence and are prepared to defend against the allegations.
