Kristel Candelario, a mother from Ohio, is facing murder charges following the death of her 16-month-old daughter, Jailyn. The incident occurred when Candelario allegedly left her daughter alone at home while she went on vacation. On June 18, Candelario was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Cleveland police reported that upon her return from the trip, Candelario discovered her daughter unresponsive at their residence.
According to the affidavit, Kristel Candelario reportedly informed investigators that she left her 16-month-old daughter, Jailyn, alone and unattended at home while she went on trips to Michigan and Puerto Rico. When Candelario returned home, she allegedly found her daughter in an extremely dehydrated state. Upon authorities’ arrival at the scene, Jailyn’s playpen was found to contain only soiled blankets and a bottom liner saturated with urine and feces, as stated in the affidavit. Medical professionals pronounced the child dead on-site, and further investigation determined that she had been left alone for a period of 10 days.
According to a press release from the Cleveland Police Department, emergency responders noted that no signs of trauma were observed in relation to the death of Jailyn, the 16-month-old girl. Kristel Candelario, the mother, is currently being held at Cuyahoga County Jail on a bond of $1 million.
