Minnesota Vikings rookie, Jaylen Twyman, was drafted as a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft. He came straight out of the University of Pittsburgh to finally claim his dream of becoming a professional defensive tackle. He was a star in the college football scene while clearly living his best life by averaging 10.5 sacks and obtaining a total of 41 tackles in 2019.
Unfortunately, Twyman was a recent victim of multiple gunshot wounds to various parts of his body. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, reportedly broke down the scenario to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Twyman was having an average day visiting his Aunt’s house in Washington D.C until all of a sudden he was caught in an unrelated crossfire that had nothing to do with him. Simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Twyman was hit in his shoulder, arm, buttocks, and leg; luckily missing all major organs and arteries. Once everything settled down, medical officials and his family members assured the public that he will not be enduring any long-term injuries and is looking to make a full recovery.
By the looks of things, he should be getting released from the hospital within the first week while still facing a long road ahead of him to rehabilitation. He encountered his injuries while sitting in a vehicle, unable to even make it to his Aunt’s house.
The Washington native was expected to join the 2020 NFL season, but would swiftly have a change of heart and decide to spend just one more year as the college star he truly was. Unfortunately, in order to even make it for this year’s regular-season debut on September 9, 2021, Twyman is going to have to utilize incredible amounts of self-discipline and make a significant grind on his path to recovery.
