Mike Krzyzewski, more popularly known as ‘Coach K,’ led his team in their final home match of the 2021-2022 college basketball season this past Saturday, March 5. Taking place inside the Wallace Wade Stadium at Duke University in the heart of Durham, North Carolina, the Blue Devils embarrassingly fell short to the North Carolina Tar Heels in an upsetting 94-81 loss. Even with Duke maintaining a strong lead at the commencement of the first half, UNC still managed to put up an impressive 55 points throughout the entirety of the second half.

Duke currently obtains the No. 5 seed in the Top 25 NCAA men’s basketball rankings as they now head into this year’s March Madness playoffs. As this specific game marks Coach K’s last official home game with the team he has coached for the past 42 years, it is heartbreaking for fans to see it surprisingly be spoiled by UNC. This match was so highly anticipated by the college basketball community that the highest-paid ticket price to watch Coach K work on his home court totaled up to be $79,988.00.

UNC guard RJ Davis seemingly did the most damage on the floor this past Saturday night for his squad by aiding in their victory with his much-needed 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, over the course of a hard fought 40 minutes of action. Armando Bacot and Caleb Love also made themselves known as the night went on, combining for a total of 45 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists, while they both played their roles on the defensive end of the floor as well. As the 2021-2022 NCAA playoffs continue, both UNC and Duke will play this upcoming Thursday, March 10 against competitors that are still to be determined.
