Professional boxers Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder participated in their third straight faceoff against each other this past Saturday, October 9, 2021. Fury defeated Wilder in the 11th round, via knockout, in order to retain his hard-earned Lineal and WBC heavyweight championship titles. The two opponents’ first fight took place back in December 2018 where Wilder would receive his first and seemingly only victory against the 6’9, 277-pound giant; their rematch was then held two years later in February 2020 in which Fury overcame the odds and rumors by defeating the Alabama fighter.
“It was a great fight, worthy of the best trilogies,” Fury stated during a post-game interview. “I will not make any excuses, Wilder is a top fighter, he gave me a run for my money. I always say that I am the best fighter in the world and he is the second-best. Don’t ever doubt me. When the chips are down I can always deliver.” The Gypsy King knocked out his opponent with a mean right hook to end the 3-year long Wilder vs Fury feud. He ended the night with a career record of 32-0-1, along with a new personal achievement of acquiring a total of 22 official KOs.
When Fury was questioned about his mindset throughout the fight he simply responded with, “He caught me twice in the fourth round, but I was never thinking, ‘Oh, this is over.’ He shook me, put me down, but that is boxing, and that is life as well. It is not how many times you get knocked down. You have got to keep fighting and keep moving forward.” Wilder also gave his opinions on the fight when he stated, “I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough. I’m not sure what happened. I know that in training he did certain things, and I also knew that he didn’t come in at 277lbs to be a ballet dancer. He came to lean on me, try to rough me up and he succeeded.” Both fighters paid their respects to each other after the match and seem to currently be on good terms as they both look to relax and soon prepare for their next mountain to climb.
