After officially purchasing Twitter for a total of $44 billion at the end of last month, Elon Musk is already making drastic changes to his newly acquired platform. The highly popular social media application currently withholds an impressive 206 million daily users, on top of an almost doubling approximate total of 396.5 million consumers worldwide.

“Get Twitter Blue for $7.99/month if you sign up now,” the platform wrote in a short description. “Blue checkmark: Power to the people: Your account will get a blue checkmark, just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow — Availability: Twitter Blue with verification is currently available on IOS in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.” As social media verifications seem to become more of a common aspect in the online community, most users feel as if it is only a matter of time before the blue checkmarks become the new normal for everyday people.
