The widely-used American video-sharing social-networking service, Triller, is currently the home to all types of approximately 65 million active monthly users and content creators. Triller is mostly known for its ongoing competition with its highly-praised competitor, TikTok, in becoming the most popular video-based social-networking platform on the internet. Representatives from the popular application officially released a lengthy statement elaborating on the specific reasons behind their latest actions:
The accusation that we are taking down the music because of millions of unpaid royalties is simply not true… We have current active agreements with Universal and Warner music which is more than 65 percent of the used popular music — We are not hopeful and optimistic that when these details expire we can come to arrangements that do not involve tens of millions in annual payments but rather a revenue split.
As to Triller taking down the music in general, we can confirm we assessed the app usage and a very small percentage of our users use the major label music as most of our users enjoy making their own content with OG sounds and uploading on their own, the spokesperson continued. We actively have removed a portion of major label music, as our deals come up, and are assessing each renewal as they come up, each on a case-by-case basis — it has not changed our app usage at all and the numbers speak for themselves.
As Triller presently looks for the best possible route to adjust to its newly structured platform, it will be interesting to notice how its creators will react when considering that a majority of them use specific music to attract most of their targeted audience.
