Houston rapper Travis Scott’s well-known Astroworld Festival was initially set to take place on Friday, November 5, and Saturday, November 6, 2021, until an unfortunate series of events occurred that left eight innocent people dead. A brutal crowd surge commenced at the start of Travis’ performance that was reportedly “unstoppable” due to the large quantity of over 50,000 fans being in attendance. Travis has already released multiple statements on behalf of himself and his team, sending his remorse and condolences to the families of the victims. He stated that he will be working to contact all of the families who lost a loved one at his concert as he will be financially contributing to their lives, while also assisting them with further aid.
He posted a short video onto his Instagram story after finding out the devastating news that read: “I just want to send out prayers for the ones that were lost that night. We are actually working right now to identify the families so we can help them out through this tough time. I am honestly just devastated, and I could never imagine anything like this just happening. I am going to do everything I can to keep you guys updated and keep you guys informed on everything that is going on.” The 30-year-old artist also made the announcement that he will be covering all of the bills from each and every one of the funerals, and offer free access to professional therapy outlets for all of the survivors who wish to participate.
Even with doing everything in his power to try and assist those in need, Travis is currently being sued by three separate concert attendees who claim that the rapper “provoked” the crowd. A family member of one of the victims who is suing took to their Twitter account to post the following statement: “Travis Scott provoked these people and made them do just that and more, he called people to the stage to jump into the crowd and did not stop the show. This is not the end, my family and I will go to the full extent to make sure he is brought to justice.” With family members of lost loved ones being understandably upset, only time will tell how the legal situation and overall career of Travis Scott will unfold.
