30-year-old artist Travis Scott unexpectedly released a surprise EP this past Friday, November 5, 2021. The short and simple project withholds just two tracks over the span of a pleasurable 6 minutes and 29 seconds. Containing no added features, with little to zero promotion behind it, the EP was officially released onto all streaming platforms with the title “ESCAPE PLAN/ MAFIA;” the title includes the names of both individual songs that dropped with the project. The Houston rapper dropped the singles just one day ahead of the commencement of his highly anticipated Astroworld Festival, taking place at the NRG Park in the heart of Houston, Texas.
With this release, the Houston rapper looks to add a little more buzz to his name, even after still coming down off of the hype from his previously released 2018 album, “ASTROWORLD.” The 17-track album included multiple features from various platinum-selling artists such as Drake, The Weeknd, Juice WRLD, Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi, Sheck Wes, 21 Savage and so many more; “ASTROWORLD” is currently certified triple-platinum in the United States by the RIAA along with selling over three million album-equivalent units.
The drop of these two singles is most likely foreshadowing the impending release of his newest sought-after album, “Utopia,” which the rapper and close producer Mike Dean have been teasing throughout their social media accounts this past month. “ESCAPE PLAN” has proved itself to be the most popular out of the two tracks by obtaining a total of 18,000 streams on Youtube, in comparison to the 2,000 listens that “MAFIA” received throughout its first day. A surplus of beat production help was also generously given into this project by Jahaan Sweet, Boi-1da, OZ, and Nik D, in order to ensure the success and true feeling behind these musical creations. “ESCAPE PLAN/ MAFIA” can be found and listened to on all streaming platforms today.
