Younger brother to the current WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, Tommy Fury previously agreed to a full PPV fight against popular Youtube star and undefeated boxer, Jake Paul. The match was initially set to take place on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Amalie Arena in the heart of Tampa Bay, Florida, however, Fury recently pulled himself from the fight due to an unexpected injury to his chest area. He released the following statement in regards to his surprising and unfortunate withdrawal: “I am absolutely heartbroken that I have been forced to withdraw from my fight with Jake Paul due to a bacterial chest infection and a broken rib,” he publicly announced to his fans.
Shortly after this disappointing news was published to the world, Paul uploaded a video onto his Instagram account in which he vocalized his opinion on Fury’s decision, along with the disclosure of his replacement. “It is official, Tommy Fury is boxing’s biggest b*tch. The Fury’s have pulled out of the fight,” he commenced his video with. “It almost doesn’t feel real, he fumbled the biggest bag of his life. I’ve fought with a broken nose, I’ve fought sick, get the f*ck over it, this is boxing.” The Cleveland native quickly went on to add, “The good news is that Mr. Tyron Woodley, we called him up, he has been training. I’m giving him $500,000 extra if he can knock me out… Jake Paul versus Tyron Woodley 2, leave no doubt. December 18, the show must go on,” Paul confidently announced to the world.
The last time these two competitors were face-to-face in the center of the ring, back in August of this year, the youngest Paul brother managed to pull ahead with the victory by a judge’s split decision. This automatically forced Woodley to follow through with a side-bet that was previously made with the 24-year-old athlete. The stipulation stated that the loser of the match had to get an “I love (their opponent)” tattoo inked on a body part of their own choice. Now, with an extra $500,000 on the line and the opportunity to show his audience that he is a true fighter for the second time, it will be interesting to observe if Woodley comes with a different approach style for the same opponent that he claims to see right through.
