The Sacramento Kings recently went head to head against the Los Angeles Lakers on their home court at the Staples Center in the heart of Los Angeles, California. Taking place on Friday, November 26, 2021, the game unexpectedly resulted in a 4-point victory, in favor of the Kings, propelling them now to hold a slightly less lopsided 8-12 2021-2022 season record. The match originally concluded with a final score of 100-100 which forced both teams to enter not one session of overtime, but three. Sacramento finally managed to pull ahead at the end of triple overtime and leave the Lakers with a heartbreaking 141-137 loss.
De’Aaron Fox put on an impressive performance this past Friday night with his much-needed 34 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds to aid in his team’s victory; Fox also saw the most time on the floor for his team with a total of 53 minutes of action. Also showing signs of life on the offensive side of the court for the Kings was shooting guard Buddy Hield, who contributed a well-earned 25 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds to his squad’s win. Newly announced King Tristan Thompson would make himself known throughout overtime as he assisted on multiple crucial plays that could have easily sent this specific game down an entirely different path.
On Los Angeles’ side of the game, the newly established Lakers squad seemed to have played well individually but continuously struggled to find the rhythm that usually leads them to success. Lebron James and Russel Westbrook both played 50 minutes on the floor, combining for a total of 59 points, 22 assists, and 17 rebounds. Star forward Anthony Davis even put up a 23-point, 4-assist and 8-rebound game which still was not enough to stop the drive behind Sacramento. With this loss, the Lakers now hold an upsetting 10-11 season record as they turn their attention to their next match against the Detroit Pistons this upcoming Sunday, November 28.
