The family of Milton Powell, widely known as Big Pokey, has sadly confirmed his passing after he collapsed onstage during a performance in Texas. In a message shared from the rapper’s Instagram account, it was stated that Big Pokey was deeply loved by his family, friends, and dedicated fans. The family plans to release information about his celebration of life and how the public can pay their respects. They have also requested privacy during this challenging time. Big Pokey, a member of the Screwed Up Click, played a significant role in popularizing the chopped and screwed sound, which was pioneered by DJ Screw. In 2021, he released his most recent album, “Sensei,” featuring 13 tracks and guest appearances from artists such as Chamillionaire, Devin The Dude, Kirko Bangz, Killa Kyleon, and more. His legacy as “The Hardest Pit in the Litter” will be remembered.

Big Pokey’s passing adds to the unfortunate list of deaths among the talented members of the Screwed Up Click (SUC), including Big Hawk, Big Moe, Fat Pat, and Big Floyd, whose death in police custody garnered global attention. However, other SUC members like E.S.G., Lil’ Keke, Lil’ Flip, and Z-Ro continue to have successful careers. Many artists, including Bun B from UGK, paid tribute to Big Pokey’s legacy and expressed their sorrow over the loss. Bun B described Big Pokey as one of the most naturally talented artists in the city, highlighting his significant impact on the Houston music scene.
