Titania Davenport, the mother of the late Takeoff, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the owners of 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston, the venue where her son was fatally shot last year. The lawsuit, seeking $1 million in damages, accuses the establishment of inadequate security measures during the incident. Davenport claims that the venue failed to implement proper screening mechanisms, after-hour controls, and security measures that could have prevented the escalation of the argument that led to Takeoff’s death. The lawsuit also alleges negligence on the part of the defendants for not adequately considering and planning for potential risks, as evident from social media posts prior to the party.
The lawsuit asserts that the owners of the venue should have been aware of the high incidence of violent crimes at the location and its surrounding area. It further claims that the defendants failed to implement necessary and appropriate precautions given the specific event and attendees. Titania Davenport is seeking various types of damages permissible under Texas law, including compensatory, special, economic, consequential, general, and punitive damages.
Last month, Patrick Xavier Clark was officially charged with murder in connection to the death of Takeoff.
