After winning this year’s NBA Championship and officially entering himself into the conversation of being on the ‘best players of all time’ list, Stephen Curry was awarded the prestigious, commemorative Bill Russell MVP Trophy and titled the 2022 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. Aside from being the best 3-point shooter of all time, an 8x NBA All-Star, winning four NBA championships, two league MVP awards and so many more, this is surprisingly the 34-year-old athlete’s first Finals MVP.
Curry shed light on how he truly feels about receiving this award during a postgame interview with an unspecified reporter: “You think about when Andre won when KD won his two, there’s just so much joy at that moment,” Curry stated. “No matter who wins it, there’s so much joy at that moment, you want to be able to experience it… That smaller trophy is not the motivation at all. The fact that I have another opportunity, and we have another opportunity to be here on this stage after the conversations over the last two or three years, that says a lot.”
Even though the light shined the brightest on the 34-year-old athlete, none of his individual accolades would have been able to be accomplished without the assistance of his fellow teammates. Throughout the years, Curry has had a plethora of all-star teammates who helped him achieve the level of success he has reached such as Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, JaVale McGee, and so many more.
