Having not released an album since his platinum project, “Stokeley” back in 2018, Ski Mask The Slump God is back and better than ever with the drop of his latest album, “Sin City The Mixtape.” This is the rapper’s first studio album release in over three years. The project contains no features at all giving Ski Mask the ability to work freely and create the music that he is truly inspired to put out; music that is one hundred percent authentic and one hundred percent him.
The name “Sin City” was inspired by a 2005 movie that was originally a comic book sequence that the rapper possessed growing up. It seems appropriate for Ski to not include any features in this body of work as he brings a slower, more heartfelt flow to this project. However, the 25-year-old had a lot to say on this album with his normal messages of making incredible sums of money and elevating through his life in general.
Officially being released on behalf of Republic Records, on June 25, 2021, the solo album contains a total of only 9 songs over the span of just under 18 minutes. Within this time frame, the Florida rapper was able to include various flows giving his fans a sneak peek at what he sounds like outside of his usual fast-paced rapping style. He still included multiple singles involving his signature flow and I think it is safe to say everyone is curious about how his audience and peers will react to his newly found approach in constructing his music.
“Sin City The Mixtape” encompasses beat production from multiple outlets such as Ronny J, Slice, Two Five, Nuri, John Cunningham, and Kenny Beats. Each single embodies a hard bounce as the 808 comes into effect along with different, easy on the ears melodies behind each drum. Ski Mask looks to put himself back in the face of the music industry with this new album in hopes that it lives up to the hype he and his fans have created for it.
