Professional tennis athlete Serena Jameka Williams is moving on to bigger and better things as she officially announces her retirement from her beloved sport. Made public to the world this past Tuesday, August 9, 2022, the all-star tennis player dove deeper into the meaning behind her “evolution.”
“I have never liked the word retirement,” Serena states. Maybe the best word to describe what I am up to is evolution. I am here to tell you that I am evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me… I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and family. I do not think it is fair — If I were a guy, I would not be writing this because I would be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family,” she continued.
Williams has achieved many accomplishments over her 27-year professional tennis career, most notably having won 23 total Grand Slam singles titles, more than any other man or woman throughout the opening era. The 40-year-old superstar initially began her tennis professionalism back in 1995 at the age of 14 years old, shocking the world and the entire tennis community with her legendary performances. As Serena evolves toward the better things in life her fans continue to wish her the best of luck with all her future endeavors while praising all of the years she has given to the sport
