The Saint Peter’s Peacocks came out with one of the most shocking upsets in March Madness history this past Friday night, March 25, 2022. Going up against the No. 3 seed in the NCAA postseason, the Purdue Boilermakers, the Peacocks managed to go against all odds and advance themselves into the Elite Eight with a well-deserved 67-64 victory over their opponents. With this win, Saint Peter’s transparently puts themselves in the category for most memorable comeback throughout March Madness, surpassing Missouri’s 2002 record of being the lowest ranking seed (No. 12) to make the Elite Eight.
22-year-old athlete, Doug Edgert, made a public statement to the fans watching around the world during a post game interview: “We are happy, but do not mistake, we are not satisfied. We are not satisfied at all. The job is not finished… We feel like we belong, and the more games we win, the more confidence we build.” Edgert put up a much needed 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist over the course of a hard fought 21 minutes of action in his squads victory.
Star guard Daryl Banks III seemingly contributed the most for his team this past Friday night by putting up a total of 14 points and 3 rebounds over the span of 28 minutes of floor time. Matthew Lee also had an impressive performance with his necessary 7-point, 1-rebound, and 3-assist game.
