Roman Abramovich, owner of the professional English soccer team Chelsea FC, has recently announced that he will be putting his prestigious club on the market to officially be sold. Making the decision public this past Wednesday, March 2, 2022, the Russian oligarch stated his conclusion was primarily based on the previous sanctions that the United States has instilled towards his country. Abramovich also made the public declaration that he will be inevitably donating all of the proceeds that the sale of his club reels in to the victims of the current war that is taking place in Ukraine.
The Russian club owner is reportedly said to be a ‘close confidant’ of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and is making this abrupt move to ‘offload assets,’ before he also begins to feel the result of the sanctions implemented by U.S. President Joe Biden. “I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart,” Abramovich stated on Saturday. “That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable foundation the stewardship and care of Chelseas FC… I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the club, players, staff, and fans.”
As of right now, the price of the notorious soccer franchise is still undetermined, but fans can rest assured that Abramovich will undoubtedly make the best choice for his former team. The 55-year-old businessman has already turned down multiple offers for his club as he is continuing to look for the perfect representation. “I and three other people have received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich,” said 86-year-old billionaire Hansjorg Wyss. “I have to wait four or five days now… Abramovich is currently asking for far too much.”
