Nine years after the initial release of their most previous video game, GTA V, Rockstar Games finally announced that the sixth installment of their popular Grand Theft Auto series is officially in motion. As of Friday, February 4, 2022, the virtual-reality business claimed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in ‘active development’ and ‘well underway in the creative process. Since its release back in September 2013, GTA V propelled itself to selling approximately 5 million copies in the first three months of its publication, while now embodying over 155 million sales after a successful nine years on the market.
A representative from Rockstar announced in a press release earlier this week: “With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered… We are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details. On behalf of our entire team, we thank you for all your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!”
After eight long years of anticipation, on top of the back-and-forth rumors on whether or not it will happen or not, gamers all across the globe can finally relive their childhood video game experiences in the most updated version possible. Without giving a specific date to look forward to, Rockstar estimated that GTA 6 will most likely be available to purchase if not pre-order between the dates of April 2023 and March 2024.
