This past Thursday, September 8, 2022, a tragedy struck the world as the people of the United Kingdom officially announced the death of their beloved ruler, Queen Elizabeth II. The eldest member of the royal family reportedly passed away from natural causes after previously being bedridden for an unspecified number of days; she was 96-years-old. With the sovereign state looking to move forward as a whole, while mourning the loss of their long-term leader, Prince Charles will now indefinitely be recognized as King Charles III and take over his mother’s responsibilities.
The royal family released a statement of their own in regards to the spontaneous death: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow… We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
Queen Elizabeth II ruled the United Kingdom for a total of 70 years and 214 days marking the longest of any previous British monarch; she was first initiated into a position of power after the passing of her father, King George VI, back in 1952. The Queen went on to reign over 32 sovereign states throughout her 96 years of life, along with an additional 15 states during her final breaths.
