After Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, forced his troops to attack and invade the Eastern European country of Ukraine, United States President Joe Biden decided to get his own country involved by implementing sanctions towards Russia. Biden went on to make this executive decision even after Putin released a statement that he will inflict “consequences we have never before” to any party who chooses to get involved in an attempt to defend Ukraine. Making this specific news public to the world this past Thursday, February 24, 2022, Biden made the announcement through a live speech he gave earlier in the day.
“We estimate that we cut off more than half of Russia’s high tech import, strike a blow in their village,” he stated. President Biden then went on to upload an official statement to the internet that read: “President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering… Tomorrow, I will meet with my G7 counterparts in the morning and then speak to the American people to announce further consequences the United States and our Allies and partners will impose on Russia for this needless act of aggression against Ukraine and global peace and security. The world will hold Russia accountable.”
Before striking Ukraine, Putin reached out to their military directly to give them one opportunity to surrender and “lay down its arms,” course they refused. “We have no other choice but to use the means we are about to announce,” Putin stated after the refusal. “I have declared a special military operation.” As the United States should be doing everything in their power not to bring war into or around their country, President Biden is seeming to completely disregard that aspect as he is continuing to openly aid Ukraine and consistently talk down on Russia.
