The Oklahoma City Thunder recently hosted a competitive match against the Dallas Mavericks this past Sunday, January 2, 2022. Taking place at the Paycom Center inside the heart of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the Thunder were handed a heartbreaking 95-86 point loss at the conclusion of the fourth quarter. With this loss, the franchise has now earned themselves an uneasy 13-23 NBA season record as they continue to battle through the odds that are clearly stacked against them.
It is not surprising to notice how low scoring of a game this was due to the fact that Oklahoma City currently obtains a full roster without any big-name superstars. However, they still managed to play a decent game when looking at the individual accomplishments that each player created for themselves and their team. Most notably, guard Josh Giddy earned a triple-double for himself that withheld a solid 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 14 assists over the course of a hard-fought 36 minutes of action. Aaron Wiggins was also a familiar face of the night as he saw the most floor time in comparison to any of his teammates; he assisted his team with 10 points and 6 rebounds, while unfortunately aiding in most of the Thunder’s 16 turnovers.
As for the Mavericks, Luka Doncic came just one rebound short of matching Oklahoma’s triple-double with his confident 14-point, 9-rebound, and 10-assist game to help his team gain the victory. Also playing a huge facilitative role in Sunday night’s win was Tim Hardaway Jr. who put up 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists throughout a well-earned 24 minutes on the court. This victory officially propels the Dallas Mavericks to now hold a steady 18-18 season record as they head into their next match against the Denver Nuggets this upcoming Monday, January 3, 2022.
