After a close 42-41 Peach Bowl victory against the No. 4 seed Ohio State, Georgia officially advanced to the College Football Playoff Championship game set to take place this upcoming Monday, January 9, 2023. The No. 1 seed took home the win this past Saturday (Dec. 31) following a missed field goal attempt by Ohio State’s Kicker, Noah Ruggles – he attempted a 3-point 48-yard field goal with two minutes and 43 seconds remaining, which could have potentially put his team in the lead by two points.
Head coach for Georgia, Kirby Smart, released a lengthy statement after his squad’s nail-biting victory this Saturday night: “I’ll open with a lot of respect for Ohio State, coach (Ryan) Day and his program… I have a lot of respect for them and a lot of these players that are on this podium with me and the guys in the locker room.” He concluded, “If we want any chance at winning a national championship, we have to play a lot better football than we played tonight — we’ve got to keep the resiliency and composure along with us.”
