Current wide receiver for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, Odell Beckham Jr., has just filed an approximate $20 million lawsuit against his longtime athletic product partner, Nike. Announced to the public this past Wednesday, November 15, 2022, Beckham’s issue with the company stems from a previous 2017 offer that matched their competing business’ (Adidas) proposal to transfer the athlete over to them. At first, the popular wide receiver was transparently excited about staying with his company of choice, until earlier this year when he noticed that his side of the numbers simply did not add up.
“Rather than continuing to pay the compensation and guaranteed royalties it is contractually obligated to pay Mr. Beckham, Nike is willfully withholding millions of dollars and inventing excuses not to pay him,” as read in official documents from this specific case. The popular 30-year-old athlete went on to release a short statement of his own regarding his present problems with the corporation: “Throughout our partnership, I have kept my promise and fulfilled my obligations to the brand… I am extremely disappointed that I’ve had to take these measures to ensure Nike fulfills their obligations and promises.”
