Young quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dwyane Haskins, was tragically killed by a dump truck this past Saturday, April 9, 2022. The devastating incident that could never be foreseen is one that the NFL and Haskins loved ones may never recover from. A local police department in the South Florida area reported that the 24-year-old athlete was attempting to walk across a highway, before sadly being struck by the moving vehicle. The exact reasons why the former 2018 Ohio State Heisman Trophy finalist was walking on the highly populated highway is still yet to be determined.

Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin, was one of the first people to give his remarks on the devastating situation. “I am devastated and at a loss of words with the unfortunate passing of Dwyane Haskins,” Tomlin wrote in a heartfelt paragraph. “He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburg and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwyane was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many… I am truly heartbroken.” Tomlin then went on to conclude his statement by sending his condolence to the Haskins family: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time.”
