Earlier this past week, two branches of former United States President Donald J. Trump’s popular real estate company, the Trump Organization, were found guilty on all charges of tax fraud by a local New York jury: The Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp. A Manhattan jury deemed both businesses guilty on an extraordinary 17 charges of ‘tax fraud and falsifying business records connected to a 15-year scheme to defraud tax authorities by failing to report and pay tax on compensation for top executives,” according to exclusive documents from this specific court case.
After the conclusion of the trial, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg released a short statement on behalf of Trump’s recent verdict — “The former president’s companies now stand convicted of crimes. That is consequential… It underscores that in Manhattan we have one standard of justice for all.”
Even with there being clear proof of the company’s tax fraud violations, a majority if not all of Trump’s legal team still ‘disagrees’ with the jury’s decision. “This case was all about Allen Weisselberg committing tax fraud on his personal tax returns.” defense attorney for the Trump Organization Susan Necheles stated. “Every witness repeatedly testified that President Trump and the Trump family knew nothing about Allen Weisselberg’s actions… We disagree with the jury’s verdict.”
An anonymous representative from Trump’s legal team went on to release another statement — “The notion that a company could be held responsible for an employee’s actions, to benefit themselves, on their personal tax returns is simply preposterous.”
