American multinational technology company, Microsoft, made the announcement this past week that they will be shutting down the Internet Explorer program. Once all access is removed, users will immediately be redirected to Microsoft Edge if they attempt to click on or attempt to open Internet Explorer. Officially announced to the public on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, on the same day this specific application concludes its usage, Microsoft uploaded an official statement onto their website confirming the widely-spread rumors.
The popular corporation went into a more in-depth explanation on its website: “Internet Explorer (IE) 11 is the last major version of Internet Explorer. “On June 15, 2022, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will no longer be supported on certain versions of Windows 10. Customers are encouraged to move to Microsoft Edge, which provides support for legacy and modern websites and apps. For organizations with a dependency on legacy Internet Explorer-based sites and apps, sites will need to be configured to open in Microsoft Edge using Internet Explorer (IE) mode.”
“Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge enables backward compatibility and will be supported through at least 2029 – Additionally, Microsoft will provide notice one year prior to the retirement of IE mode,” the computer software service company stated. Their website also includes a lengthy list of various supported operating systems of Internet Explorer, along with other versions of the business that was unexpectedly impacted by this abrupt transition.
