Living legend and basketball sensation Michael Jordan is widely known for his historic 15-season NBA career. He mainly played for the Chicago Bulls before retiring in 2003; he hung up his jersey two times prior in 1993 and again in 1998. His skills on the court and personality through the television made fans feel as if they actually knew the superstar, creating an all-around effect on Jordan’s image and value as not just an athlete, but an overall person as well. Almost two decades after his retirement, the 58-year-old entrepreneur still has one of the most expensive basketball cards on the market, currently sitting at a price range anywhere between $200,000 – $738,000 per piece.
Not only is Jordan’s card worth thousands of dollars, but apparently his overly used boxers are as well. NBA Central’s Twitter account recently uploaded a post to their feed announcing the unsettling news to the public that read, “Michael Jordan’s ‘heavily used’ boxers are officially for sale. An auction insider tells us that the shorts were ‘regularly worn’ by Jordan and show signs of ‘heavy use.’” They soon followed up with a second post that stated, “Update: A fan just purchased Michael Jordan’s old boxers for $2,784.”
Going around social media as the ‘Air Undies,’ Jordan’s boxers gained the interest of 19 total buyers before eventually being outbid by the lucky winner; the single piece of underwear was displayed and sold at Lelands auction. The event initially received the boxers from Jordan’s former bodyguard, John Michael Wozniak, accompanied by other various worn items from the former Bulls closet that included expensive dress shirts, dress pants, suits, ties, and coats. It will be captivating to observe how much Michael Jordan’s used designer clothes will go for after absorbing the fact that his boxers went for just under $3,000.
