Miami Heat Set New NBA Free Throw Record In Win Against OKC

The 2022-’23 Miami Heat roster has just made their mark in the NBA history books. Star forward Jimmy Butler took the initiative to lead his squad to their most recent 112-111 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC) this past Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the FTX Arena in the heart of Miami, Florida. In doing so, the all-star athlete also took part in assisting his franchise to obtain a new NBA record for successfully scoring 40 out of 40 free throws during regulation time, with not a single miss.

“I had no idea… I’m more excited that we won this game by one point,” Butler stated during a post-game interview regarding the new free throw record. The Heat’s head coach, Erik Spoelstra, went on to vocalize his thoughts on the matter as well: “We’ve been a good free-throw-shooting team, actually a very good free-throw-shooting team, all year, but that’s crazy.” Spoelstra also stated that he was not even aware that his players had not missed any foul shots until after the conclusion of the game.

With this specific win, Miami now increases their overall record to 22-20 for the 2022-’23 NBA season, in comparison to their competitors’ (OKC) updated 18-23 record. Most notably, Butler and Max Strus put on the most impressive performances for their team by combining for a total of 57 points, 7 assists, and 14 rebounds, while each seeing 40 minutes of action.
