Mercedes-Benz recently announced to their customers that they are currently developing a plan to switch from their usual gas-powered vehicles to a more sustainable, electric-only industry. It is said that this plan has been an idea floating within the company for quite some time now as the company’s representatives have simply been waiting for everything to financially line up before putting everything into motion. The corporation announced that if this thought goes fully through and everything works out as planned, we could be seeing a completely new version of Mercedes-Benz within as quickly as the next decade.
The industry released a statement this past Thursday, July 22, 2021, that they will “invest over $47 billion USD ($40 billion euros)” in order to join the electric family. The original blueprint for how they will go about constructing this multi-billion dollar play is said to start making noise by 2025 and hopefully be running smoothly as it ends around the year 2030. Their main objective to get the pieces into action is to not just “launch three new battery-only vehicles platforms,” but also to “structure and build eight separate battery plants.”
While this specific move will undoubtedly save the business an enormous amount of money over the coming years, it will come with the cost of deducting a huge chunk of their current employees; mainly the mechanics. Due to the fact that electric vehicles contain fewer parts mechanics will no longer provide the same amount of assistance to the company as they previously did when their cars were gas-operated. However, this will not be the case with all employees as the CEO of Mercedes-Benz, Ola Kallenius, stated they will “retrain selected workers while offering early retirement buyouts to others.” As of right now, their main goal is to stay ahead of competing car companies as they have confidently made it known that this is the superior way to go about it.
