Malikah Shabazz, the daughter of “African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist” Malcolm X, was recently found dead inside the living room of her house. The devastating incident took place on Monday, November 22, 2021, where her 23-year-old daughter came across the scarring scene of her mother unresponsive on the floor; they shared the apartment together in the heart of Brooklyn, New York. “This family has been through hell over and over again, and there is some horrible injustice to someone who ultimately did so much good for the world,” is what the Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio had to say about the situation.

The tragic passing of Malikah coincidentally came just four days after a Manhattan judge absolved two individual men who were previously arrested for the assassination of Malcolm X back in 1966; he was murdered a year prior to their conviction. Reports claim that the 56-year-old international human rights activist was found face down in the center of her living room without any signs of suspicious or unwarranted activity before or after her time of death, leading to the assumption that the incident had nothing to do with her father’s killers. However, medical experts have yet to fully examine the scene and determine the exact cause of death, still leaving all possibilities on the table for any scenario to have occurred.

The 58-year-old entrepreneur and peace advocate Bernice A. King, the youngest daughter of Coretta Scott King and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., publicly shared her remorse towards the upsetting and unexpected event. She wrote in a post that was uploaded to her Twitter account, “I’m deeply saddened by the death of Malikah Shabazz. My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X,” followed by a picture of Malikah and her twin sister being held by their mother when they were newborns. “Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with her and her twin sister, Malaak, when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah,” she wholesomely concluded.
