While most people do their best to help smoothly maintain the country they live in, Kyrie Irving has been giving his all to help not only in his home country but wherever people are in need of physical essentials throughout the world. More specifically Tharparkar, a below poor town in Pakistan that was desperately in need of a stable water source; it looked as if things kept on the track they were headed you would begin to slowly see a decrease in population. Already working on a solution to this problem was Sonny Khan, “a Brooklyn Nets founder and director/founder of Paani Project,” who brought the conflict to Kyrie’s attention. Luckily agreeing that this was a necessary task, Irving was able to collaborate with Khan and gave his team the small push they needed to get things on a faster pace for a solution.
Officially released to the public on July 26, 2021, and taking over four months to completely finish, the ‘solar-based water center’ supplies more than 1,000 villagers with the ability to acquire ‘clean healthy water.’ This small upgrade in the residents day to day life will not just increase their overall health, but farming included which provides fresh crops for better-tasting meals. While Irving’s huge act of kindness received an innumerable amount of positive feedback he requested no publicity to be mentioned about his partaking.
“I reached out to his foundation directly and told them about Paani,” Khan stated when asked about bringing Irving on the project. “How we have $0 in overhead costs. How do we give all of our money to the people. How we’ve raised over $1 million as volunteers without any money for marketing. I think our story of being kids who just wanted to help resonated.” Specific financial numbers have yet to be released on behalf of Irving being known to be ‘very private’ with all of his philanthropy acts and donations. As the NBA season comes to a conclusion I am sure there are various acts of kindness in store from the hand of a generous Kyrie Irving.
