Kanye West has been given many names over the years such as ‘Yeezy’ and ‘Ye.’ The Atlanta artist previously released two studio albums that were given the titles of his two nicknames, being “Yeezus” back in 2013, while “ye” later followed in 2018. Given the personality that Kanye has shown to the world, it comes as no surprise that the “DONDA” rapper has recently been approved to legally change his name from Kanye West to simply Ye. He officially filed for the name change back in August of this year and the outcome seemed to look grim until this information was newly brought to light.

Late this past Monday, October 18, 2021, a local Los Angeles judge officially signed off on the petition to accept the 44-year-old artist’s request to lawfully switch his government name from Kanye Omari West to Ye, excluding any middle or last names. “There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” judge Michelle Williams Court wrote in her documents. Kanye gave a more detailed explanation of the reason behind this sudden drastic move during a radio interview in which he stated: “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So I am you, I am us, it is us. My name went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye… being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything.” He made this statement back in 2018 when he first publicized the idea of seriously changing his name; this was also the year he dropped his platinum-certified album “ye” (2018).

Kanye is still in the process of legally splitting up with his former wife Kim Kardashian, who the rapper now has four children. Kim and her children are currently still using the last name West and by the looks of things, reportedly plan on not making any changes in the upcoming future. The popular rapper is fresh off of the release of his latest project, “DONDA,” which has officially been certified gold by the RIAA nearly just two months after its initial release. It will be interesting to see how Kanye, or Ye, will handle the unforgiving media after he formally switches his identity.
