Everyone is given a name when they are born and as life goes further down the line some people develop nicknames given to them by everyday peers or friends. As most people are familiar with by now Kanye West has been going by the name ‘Yeezy’ for quite some time as he has even launched a new multi-million dollar shoe company titled after the nickname he has developed over his many years of fame. Wanting to take this name to the next level the 44-year-old rapper recently filed to have his name legally changed to “Ye” in his hometown of Los Angeles as of Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
The review process for this is still unclear but we can assume it will be processed just as any other name change application, so all the Atlanta rapper has to hope for is a judge to sign off and from then on the Kanye West we know is gone and the “Ye” is officially here. Yeezy also reportedly wants to get rid of the ‘West’ from his name entirely, which seems very strange when looking back as to how much pride and honor he has taken in his family’s heritage. Although it would be an interesting series of events to watch if this seemingly impulsive decision does happen to go through as his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian-West still has his last name attached to her own; there is no telling how the mother of his children would react to this odd choice.
All states have different laws when it comes to changing your full government name. California law states that “unless there is evidence that a specific name change is being designed to commit fraud” or any act in relation then the judge is most likely going to sign off on the document. This clearly foreshadows that Kanye West might just get his way as he looks to create a better version of himself through his highly anticipated new name. “Just call me Ye,” is the only statement Kanye has released in response to all of the questions and comments being said about his name change.
