Professional mixed martial artist Jorge Masvidal was recently arrested this past Monday, March 21, 2022, for allegedly attacking his former friend and opponent, Colby Covington. Reportedly taking place outside of a local restaurant in the Miami, Florida area, Masvidal was spotted by multiple witnesses ‘punching’ his long-term rival various times. It was previously stated that he left the victim with a minor bruising and a fractured tooth.
The 37-year-old athlete later went on to turn himself in to the police on Wednesday morning before being charged with criminal mischief and aggravated battery with a mask; he managed to make bail shortly after. “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids,” Masvidal reportedly stated during the altercation. Prior to their previously held fight, in which Covington surprisingly took the victory, Masvidal was heard multiple times addressing how his rival is overstepping boundaries by ‘talking about my [Masvidal] children.’
The day after his arrest, the UFC athlete posted the following caption to his Twitter feed: “Good morning to everyone except those that think talking about someone’s kids is cool.” Covington and Masvidal previously fought during UFC 272 during a five-round match that resulted in a victorious Covington at the conclusion of the fight; Covington was pronounced the winner by split decision. The event took place back at the beginning of March and seems to be the first of many professional interactions between these two specific superstars.
