After undergoing a groundbreaking surgery that involved a successful face and double hand transplant, the individual involved has now found love three years following the life-changing procedure.
Joe DiMeo, who is currently 24 years old, endured a tragic accident in July 2018 when his Dodge Challenger crashed and burst into flames in New Jersey. The incident resulted in severe third-degree burns covering 80% of his body and necessitated the amputation of his fingertips.
Following the accident, Joe DiMeo underwent an extensive journey of 20 reconstructive plastic surgeries and skin grafts. Then, in August 2020, a groundbreaking 23-hour procedure took place at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, where DiMeo received a simultaneous face and bilateral hand transplant. The surgery marked a significant milestone in his recovery and offered new hope for his future and potential for others who may be suffering from similar circumstances.
