Earlier this past week (Jan. 10), the annual 2023 Golden Globe Awards held their 80th annual gathering at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the heart of Los Angeles, California. Hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, plenty of widely-known Hollywood icons showed up to support the ceremony including Zendaya, Austin Butler, Steven Spielberg, Kaley Cuoco, Jamie Lee Curts, Jeremy Alle White, Michelle Williams, Julia Garner, and so many more.
Also in attendance this past Tuesday night, making her debut appearance, Jenna Ortega was rightfully nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical category, for her highly-praised acting work in the popular comedy-horror Netflix series, Wednesday. “I’m not calling myself that [phenomenon], but I definitely feel like there’s been a shift in my life and I feel like it’s definitely a new time in my life… It’s been a bit of an adjustment,” Ortega stated regarding her viral moments in the show.
During the early moments of the series, Ortega abruptly went viral on the popular social networking application, TikTok, for a so-called ‘improv’ dance, turned ‘iconic’: Widely-known celebrities such as Lady Gaga even went on to recreate the dance themselves. “Some of the moves I had planned, some of it was improv,” the young 20-year-old actress admitted. “That was one of the scenes I stayed awake thinking about because I thought there was so much that I could have done and should have done… The fact that anyone is showing appreciation and trying it themselves, it’s not fathomable to me.”
Ortega also mentioned how she does not like to spend time on any social networking applications such as Instagram or TikTok, resulting in her unawareness of the number of people her viral dance scene resonated with — “No, I can’t be on TikTok, I can’t do any of that stuff. I think good or bad, it’s probably not a healthy place to be. Other nominees for the Best Actress – Television Series Comedy or Musical award include Selena Gomez: Only Murders in the Building, Kaley Cuoco: The Flight Attendant, Jean Smart: Hacks, and the winner, Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary.
