Continuing to update and modernize its widely-used social media platform, Instagram has received a plethora of negative flashbacks concerning its most recent system update. After installing reels as one of their newest entertainment sources, users have been transparently upset about how much the application relates to their highly-popular competitor, TikTok. American businessman and the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, uploaded a virtual response this past Thursday, July 28, 2022:
“I am glad we took a risk — if we are not failing every once in a while, we are not thinking big enough or bold enough. But we definitely need to take a big step back and regroup… we have learned a lot, then we come back with some sort of new idea or iteration. So we are going to work through that.” Mosseri also went on to acknowledge that the previous changes were “not good yet,” before officially instituting them in his platform.
A representative from the highly-respected technology company, Meta, vocalized their concerns on the direction that Instagram is headed. “We recognize that changes to the app can be an adjustment, and while we believe that Instagram needs to evolve as the world changes, we want to take the time to make sure we get this right,” the anonymous spokesperson stated. The application made clear that its present goal is to “decrease the amount of recommended posts and get rid of the full-screen video feed,” per the networking service.
