Instagram has been one of the top social media networking applications for quite some time now as they continue to better their platform with the latest technological advancements. With billions of daily users and creators, the business model has managed to grow itself into a $100 billion company since it first announced the release of the website back in October 2010. Currently, the application embodies approximately 500,000 creators who earn fluctuating incomes from the company, while simultaneously withholding about 1.3 billion users who simply visit the homepage on a consistent daily basis.
As of late, Instagram recently made the announcement that they will be installing three brand new features that are made exclusively for creators. The head of Instagram Adam Mosseri recently uploaded a post to his Twitter account this past Thursday, January 20, 2022, where he stated, “Subscriptions allow creators to monetize and become closer to their followers through exclusive experiences: subscriber lives, subscriber stories, and subscriber badges. We hope to add more creators to this test in the coming months. More to come.” Mosseri also stated in a short video he attached to his post that Instagram will be testing all of the new features, with selected influencers, throughout the remainder of this present week.
“Subscriptions are for creators,” Mosseri announced. “Creators do what they do to make a living and it is important that it is predictable. Subscriptions are one of the best ways to have a predictable income: a way that it is not attached to how much reach you get in a post.” The businessman then dove into a deeper explanation on exactly how each individual subscription will affect not only the creator’s account but the users as well. While no one can know if this move will truly be successful, the main goal in Mosseri’s eyes seems to be something along the lines of increasing the virtual engagement between users and creators
