Tesla first launched the newest edition of the Model 3 electric sedan back in 2016, while finally making their vehicles available in India. Over the past couple of years, businessmen from India have been reaching out to multi-billionaire Elon Musk, in an attempt to acquire the highly-anticipated information as to when Tesla will be launching their previously mentioned headquarters in India. One man, in particular, the Senior Director of Molecular Engineering at Adicet Bio, Arun Bhat started over five years ago, “I thought Tesla would launch in India in the next couple of years. I just love the product and the minimalist interior.” To this day, the multi-million dollar businessman is still waiting for that move to be made.
Musk previously announced a few years ago that he was planning on setting up a system where Tesla can confidently move a part of their company to India without any drastic changes to their stock or market status. However, since this initial statement, the 50-year-old businessman has yet to release a follow-up affirmation in regards to this maneuver. He even replied to a fan, via his Twitter account, in relation to the lack of Tesla’s in India: “We want to do so, but import duties are the highest in the world by far of any large country! Moreover, clean energy vehicles are treated the same as diesel or petrol, which does not seem entirely consistent with the climate goals of India.” He then ended with a short message that stated, “We are hopeful that there will be at least a temporary tariff relief for electric vehicles. That would be much appreciated.”
As of late, Tesla has been absolutely skyrocketing on the market just after Hertz placed “the biggest electric vehicle order ever,” as stated by representatives at the company. Their stock jumped more than 12% after the large purchase of 100,000 Tesla vehicles, in order to try and boost their slowly declining car-rental corporation. As Musk continues to excel throughout SpaceX and Tesla, there is no telling when the right time will be for the popular entrepreneur to venture off into India.
