Squid Game is the name of the newest non-English series that premiered on Netflix as of September 17, 2021. The Korean thriller has been quickly rising in popularity and seems to be on the fast track to becoming the platform’s biggest show ever. With only one season released, the series has already accumulated enough attention to propel itself to claim the No. 2 spot on Netflix’s ‘most-watched series’ list, over Bridgerton. The show has only been made available to watch in the United States for nearly two weeks and has already taken social media by storm with its trippy aesthetic and suspenseful plot twists.

Soon after its initial release, Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Saranados predicted the outcome of the show’s future numbers when he stated, “There’s a show on Netflix right now that is No. 1 in the world, like everywhere in the world. It’s called Squid Game. Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world, for sure.” The series consists of multiple children’s games being played at a high-risk price in order for each contestant to earn a fair chance at billions of dollars. Suspense runs throughout the entirety of the show while containing various plot twists. Fans are calling it “Netflix’s best release yet.”
The main cast in this worldwide popular survival story is played by Korean performers Park Hae Son, HoYeon Jung, Gong Yo, Wi Ha-joon and Lee Jung-jae. The gory 9-episode drama series has already taken the world by storm and reached the title of being the first Korean show to accomplish all of the achievements it has in the United States. Squid Game is quickly rising on all charts and is reportedly the viewer’s first recommendation when asked about a new film. There is no specific information as to when the producers plan to release the upcoming seasons.
