The 2021 NBA Conference Finals was like no other as Giannis Antetokounmpo guided his team to their second championship victory since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar brought the first one home to Milwaukee back in 1971. Not only did the Greek Freak solidify history this past Tuesday by sending the Phoenix Suns home with a 105-98 loss, but he was foreseeably awarded the 2021 Bill Russell Finals MVP award for his impressive performances throughout the series. His 50-point, 14-rebound, and 5-block performance in Game 6 were more than enough to propel him to achieving yet another monumental milestone in his 8 season career with the Bucks.
The 7-foot athlete continues to add to his long list of accomplishments that includes an NBA Championship; a Finals MVP; becoming a 2x NBA MVP; earning DPOTY and MIPOTY; being a 5x All-Star; NBA All-Star Game MVP; and playing 5x on the All-NBA Team and 4x on the All-NBA Defensive Team. Keep in mind that Giannis is still considered one of the young players on the Bucks roster at just 26 years old.
Not only is this a huge self-accomplished victory for the Greece native himself, but it also makes him even in his family since his younger brother, Kostas Antetokounmpo, won his first NBA championship ring with the Lakers in last year’s 2020 Conference Finals. “No more jokes at the dinner table,” Giannis said in a post-game interview as he and the third Antetokounmpo brother, Thanasis, was too a part of this year’s championship-winning team. With all three brothers now holding a championship title under their belt, they have now made their own history in the league by becoming “the first trio of brothers to have all won an NBA championship.”
As Giannis caps off an incredibly impressive postseason he told the entire world after the game had concluded that he will “do it again.” After this finals performance by the Milwaukee star, NBA fans around the world are starting to say that this is now ‘Giannis’ league,’ in spite of Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by none other than the Phoenix Suns. The Greek Freak looks to make the rumors a reality as there is no doubt he will be headed into the 2022 NBA season even better than he was before.
