Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been in the boxing scene since 1993 before retiring with his undefeated record. In 2017 he would soon return after being called out on social media by Notorious Conor McGregor who he would eventually end up defeating. Thinking this was the last time we would see Money Mayweather in a ring I think it’s safe to say we were all wrong.
On June 6, 2021, and coming out of retirement ‘for the last time Floyd Mayweather engaged in an exhibition boxing match against famous Youtuber and Podcast star Logan Paul. Both men took this fight to the moon with a total of eight rounds and the unofficial, controversial decision of ending in a draw. Shocking the world Logan threw an admirable 217 punches yet would only contact 28 noteworthy hits. Mayweather on the other hand would only throw 107 punches but landed 43 direct hits on his opponent. Neither fighter was able to gain a knockout victory.
The match was broadcasted around the world on PPV and the hype leading up to it would send sales numbers through the roof. With over 1 million buys on PPV and being sold at $49.99 each you would assume both competitors made a similar chunk of money. Wrong. Both fighters agreed that after everything was said and done Floyd would be guaranteed $10 million dollars along with 50 percent of all PPV buys and Logan would be guaranteed 250k and just 10 percent of PPV buys.
These numbers seem fair when taking into consideration that Logan is the one who called out a retired Floyd in the first place. More importantly, he is most famous for his entertaining videos and informative podcasts. This was his first time competing in a real boxing event and it was against one of the greatest to ever live. Logan held his own throughout the duration of the fight but at the end of the day Money Mayweather came out on top.
