Ever since the brutal murder of an innocent Geoge Floyd, law enforcment offices all across the country have been cracking down on their officers to strictly enforce the law onto those who are breaking it and not by skin color. With nothing seeming to have signficanlty changed, 20-year-old African American Daunte Wright was unnecessarily murdered during a routine traffic stop by former Brooklyn Center, Minnestoa police officer Kim Potter. The unfortunate event took place back in April of last year as Potter is currently facing multiple counts of first and second degree manslaughter; various witnesses have testified to seeing the ex-cop shooting the innocent young man in cold blood.
The sentencing for the 49-year-old caucasian lady occurred this past Friday, February 18, 2022, where she was officially declared to spend 24 months behind bars and 16 months in prison by a federal judge. Potter and her team pleaded to the courtroom that she had meant to pull out her taser, but unfortunately confused it with her firearm: A mistake that cannot go unpunished. “I am so sorry that I brought the death of your son, father, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew and the rest of your family to your home,” the defendant stated the mother of the victim. “Katie, I understand a mother’s love and I am so sorry I broke your heart.”
Judge Regina Chu, who announced the official sentencing towards the murderer, claimed this ordeal was “one of the saddest cases I’ve had in my 20 years on the bench,” she stated. Chu went on to add, “On the one hand, a young man was killed and on the other, a respected veteran police officer made a tragic error by pulling her handgun instead of her taser,” there must be an act of discipline. Before adjourning the courtroom, Chu left her crowd with a short statement with the intention of putting a halt to any future racial accusations that may arise within this case: “This is not a cop found guilty of murder for using his knee to pin down a person for 9 ½ minutes as he gasped for air,” she claimed. “This is not a cop found guilty of manslaughter for intentionally drawing his firearm and shooting across his partner and killing an unarmed woman who approached his squad. This is a cop who made a tragic mistake.”
