Last Sunday, November 21, 2021, the American Music Awards (AMA) took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The annual event has been the home to many celebrities as they get publicly recognized for their continuous hard-earned accomplishments throughout the current year. Drake was officially the recipient of his sixth career American Music Award after being acknowledged as this year’s 2021 favorite male hip-hop artist. The Toronto-born rapper beat out four other multi-million dollar selling artists who were nominated for this specific category being Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, Polo G, and even the posthumous Pop Smoke was up for nomination for his popular 2021 deluxe album “Faith.” Drake has also received five other AMAs throughout his time in the music career that consisted of the Favorite Hip-Hop Artist Award in 2017: Favorite Hip-Hop Album Award: Favorite Hip-Hop Song Award: Favorite R&B Song Award and was crowned as the Favorite Hip-Hop Artist, all in 2016.

The young 35-year-old artist has been all over the music scene this past year by making various appearances on multiple big-name projects such as “Popstar” (with DJ Khaled): “Having Our Way” (with Migos): Young Thug’s “Bubbly” (with Travis Scott) and “Solid” (feat. YSL & Gunna). These features alone were enough to push the 6 God to the top of the scoreboard, but the most notable drop made by the “Want and Needs” rapper this year is undoubtedly the unveiling of his highly anticipated album “Certified Lover Boy.” The project obtains a plethora of multi-platinum selling artists’ features including Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Future, and Lil Baby, just to name a few. “CLB” topped the Billboard 200 Chart even weeks after its initial release, propelling the album to officially be certified platinum by the RIAA and selling over 300k units at the end of the first week of its publication.
